ASB SPONSORED CLUBS / ADVISORIES

ASB (Associated Student Body)

ASB promotes school spirit, good citizenship and supports and encourages all school activities.  Advised by Mr. Totoris, ASB is a student council that helps to inspire high ideals for education and democracy.  ASB does a variety of fund raising activities, the largest one being the annual magazine drive.

Publicity Club

The purpose of the Muirlands Publicity Club is to improve and enhance communication among the Muirlands Middle School community, consisting of the students, staff, parents, and local community; it will solicit, plan, create, and display information throughout the school campus which supports school spirit, good citizenship and academics, school wide policies, events, and activities.
As a special advisory, student membership eligibility in this club will require a completed application that shows student interest and/or experience in art, graphic design and/or computer skills.  As a member of this special advisory, you must maintain a 2.0/2.0 grade point average in academics and citizenship with no F’s or U’s. You are entitled to one grading period of probation during which your grades will need to improve back to the previously stated requirements.

Yearbook

The students of Muirlands Middle School Yearbook Staff create a high quality yearbook in which we illustrate the middle school days of all Muirlands students. We record, support and encourage all school activities; promote school spirit, good citizenship and success in the academics; reflect on the personality of students, staff and community; capture the ideals and memories of Muirlands; do hereby try to accomplish all of these goals.

MUIRLANDS OTHER ADVISORIES

Gardening

Gardening Advisory class will instruct students on gardening basics . Students will learn about planting zones, plant needs, and help beautify our campus through planting, caring for plants, and keeping our planted areas tidy.

LJRadio

LJRadio is a web radio station located at Muirlands Middle School, where students learn to work as broadcasters. They work with digital recorders, a broadcast console, edit with Adobe Audition and stream their shows from www.ljradio.com. Students attend field trips to broadcast locations such as KPBS, Time Warner Cable and Clear Channel. They have guest teachers like Jeff Prescott; retired from AM 600 and Dan Plante, morning anchor at KUSI.

Math Count

Math Counts is an advisory that is committed to improving students' math skills and making them creative thinkers and problem solvers. We compete in MathCounts and the Greater San Diego Middle School Math Field Day, at regional and state levels.

Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad is an advisory that challenges the students to explore areas of science not necessarily taught in school, and apply their new knowledge to hands-on activities.
